Choosing diapers for your child is a matter that often leaves many mothers pondering and contemplating. How do you choose the right diapers? How do you use diapers correctly? Read on to find the answers.
On November 5, 2022 evening, Jo Vietnam diaper brand collaborated with aFamily to organize an online exchange program with experts on the topic: “Choosing standard clean diapers – Safety for babies, joy for mothers”.

During the exchange, aFamily’s audience had the opportunity to hear from Dr. Duong Thuy Nga, a specialist in Pediatrics at the DND Brothers International Healthcare System. Dr. Nga shared experiences in selecting diapers that are safe and appropriate, as well as addressing common issues encountered when using diapers for children.
The dangers of using fake or low-quality diapers for babies stem from the diversity of diaper products
With various types of counterfeit, plain, or low-quality diapers flooding the market, inadvertently using diapers of uncertain origins or lacking quality certifications might save a little money initially but can potentially lead to unforeseen consequences for the delicate skin of babies and their long-term health.
The expert’s method for choosing standard diapers
During the recent exchange program, Dr. Dương Thùy Nga revealed to aFamily’s readers 5 criteria for selecting a good diaper for children:
“Criterion 1: Safety
Products need to have clear origins, imported raw materials, and be manufactured by reputable brands. They should be certified by the Ministry of Health.
Criterion 2: Absorbency
Diapers should have good absorbency, quick absorption time, and prevent reverse leakage onto the baby’s skin.
Criterion 3: Softness
Babies’ skin is delicate and requires soft, smooth products to ensure their protection.
Criterion 4: Breathability
Mothers can test breathability by placing a cup on the diaper’s surface. If the cup becomes foggy within 15 seconds due to moisture escaping from the diaper, it indicates good breathability.
Criterion 5: Choose diapers with antibacterial and effective anti-rash technologies
Some notable antibacterial technologies include Silver Nano technology and green tea extract for antibacterial and odor-reducing effects”.

In the exchange program, there was also a fascinating experiment conducted for mothers to verify the absorbency of a diaper. The experiment was performed on the Jo Economy size L diaper, which, despite being filled with about 600ml of liquid three times, was still able to absorb all the liquid poured into it.
“Each time a baby urinates, around 20-30ml of liquid is released. Within 4 hours of diapering, a baby urinates around 4-5 times, totaling approximately 150ml. This diaper can absorb up to 650ml of liquid, which is truly impressive.

Currently, one of the standout products in the market meeting all the mentioned criteria is the Jo Economy Pull-up Diaper. The Jo Economy is a product researched and developed by the DND Brother International Healthcare System. Produced in the first GMP – WHO standard paper industry factory in Vietnam, mothers can have complete confidence in its quality and origin.
Jo Economy boasts remarkable advantages as it is incredibly thin, measuring only 2mm, and effectively prevents rashes due to its Silver Nano and green tea extract technology, providing antibacterial and odor-reducing properties. Therefore, mothers might consider exploring this product for their children.
Some notes for mothers to prevent diaper rash during winter
During winter, babies can still develop diaper rashes due to prolonged use of diapers, exposing the baby’s skin to bacteria for extended periods. Another reason could be insufficiently drying the skin after bathing, leading to diaper rash.
Dr. Nga shares some preventive methods to avoid diaper rash for children: “Change diapers regularly every 3-4 hours, choose diapers that suit your child, be cautious when using herbal waters for baby hygiene—ensure they are natural and chemical-free. Note that when using diaper rash creams, it’s essential to follow the guidance of a doctor or healthcare professional. Allow your baby’s skin to be diaper-free for at least 2-3 hours a day to let it breathe naturally.
Choosing the right diaper size is extremely crucial
Babies are in a developmental phase, so their diaper sizes will frequently change. Elastic waistband diapers need to have a certain level of elasticity to allow for slight expansion around the baby’s waist. Additionally, mothers should regularly check if the diaper leaves any marks on the baby’s skin. If the diaper fits snugly but leaves deep marks, it might not be the right size for the baby.
The packaging of the product always provides detailed and clear information about diaper sizes based on appropriate weight parameters. Therefore, before deciding on a diaper size for your baby, it’s essential for mothers to delve deeper into these specifications.

Hopefully, the knowledge shared by Dr. Dương Thùy Nga in the exchange program “Choosing standard clean diapers – Safety for babies, joy for mothers” can assist mothers in selecting the best and most suitable diaper for their child. This journey of caring for their children will hopefully become easier and more joyful with the right choice of diapers.
