Substandard diapers threating to the health of Vietnamese children

“The prevalence of health issues among babies due to the lack of clean diaper technology, alongside the hidden aspects behind the myriad of diaper products flooding the market, has driven us to create friendly, hygienic and genuinely safe products for little ones”.

According to data from the National Dermatology Institute, skin inflammation caused by diaper use in Vietnamese children ranges from 7% to 35%. Close caregivers, responsible for the daily hygiene of many babies, can become sources of disease if standards of cleanliness and disinfection, as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), are not met.

Children with dermatitis due to improper use of diapers

Children develop skin inflammation due to improper use of diapers. Many Vietnamese children suffer from allergies, itching, diaper rash, which, in the long run, can lead to pus, urinary tract infections, blood infections because their delicate skin comes into direct contact with low-quality, unhygienic diapers. Inferior quality diapers often have poor absorption, fail to meet disinfection standards, hence providing a conducive environment for bacterial growth. Moreover, these diapers lack backflow prevention, causing the baby’s skin to remain damp, creating a hot, humid environment that irritates the skin. The widespread red rashes on the buttocks, thighs and groin are extremely itchy and can eventually cause damage to the intimate area. A child’s delicate and sensitive skin, with an incomplete natural protection mechanism, requires direct contact with extremely soft, dry and breathable diapers that offer superior rash protection.

Children – the future generation of the country, the hope of every family, will continue to face unforeseeable health risks if they continue to use rudimentarily produced diapers, with sourceless raw materials, devoid of any quality checks, even packed manually amidst dusty environments, exposed to cross-contamination – these are certainties.

Aspiration for Clean Diapers Technology for Vietnamese Children

With nearly 30 years of working in the medical field, participating in many medical examination and treatment activities around the country, being exposed to advanced medical countries in the world, Dr. Nguyen Dang Dung – the father of Jo Diaper always strives to bring the best health care conditions to Vietnamese people, especially children, women and the elderly. Therefore, the problem of young children having health problems due to the lack of clean diaper and the “hidden corners” behind the unknown origin diapers on the market prompted that doctor to produce eco-friendly products which are hygienic and truly safe for users.

What is a clean diaper?

Did you know that the quality of a diaper product is evaluated based on criteria such as: raw materials used in production, weight, size, absorption capability, speed, thinness, antibacterial properties and the closed manufacturing process…? These factors aren’t visible to the naked eye but require stringent testing in quality control rooms to ensure there are no errors when the product reaches consumers. And the Jo clean diaper has been researched and developed based on these criteria.

The internationally standardized manufacturing plant

If you are skeptical, come along with us to visit Viet Sing plant, which meets the GMP WHO standards – the place where the Jo clean diapers are produced. You’ll feel like you’re stepping into an internationally accredited hospital rather than an ordinary manufacturing plant.

Covering an area of 20,000m2, Viet Sing system of workshops, warehouses and offices is modernly constructed according to international standards. The plant is surrounded by numerous green trees, offering spacious and environmentally friendly surroundings.

The state-of-the-art research room

Let’s start with the research room, equipped with the most advanced devices and machinery to determine dimensions, weight, absorption measurements, moisture-wicking capabilities, or the antibacterial properties of silver nano molecules… All these parameters must be absolutely accurate. Before being transported to stores across the country, several random samples from each batch will undergo another round of testing in the research room to ensure that the diaper products meet the quality standards and are free from any defects when they reach consumers. The research room is also where new technologies are experimented with and diaper products are improved daily to meet the ever-growing demands of consumers.

The enclosed, sterile production area

Next is the production area, where Jo clean diapers are manufactured in large quantities. The factory workers’ uniforms have no buttons to prevent any buttons from accidentally detaching and falling into the diaper products. Additionally, the cuffs and ankles of the uniforms are slightly tightened to minimize contamination from contact. To enter the workshop area, visitors or employees from other departments must change into non-woven fabric clothing, wear hair coverings and shoe covers to minimize dust, buttons, or hair from adhering to the production line. Subsequently, we move through the sterilization area to completely eliminate dirt and ensure a sterile environment within the factory. Inside, the modern production lines, based on US technology, operate perfectly to create high-quality, gentle and safe diapers for babies.

Imported raw materials

All raw materials are imported from advanced countries worldwide such as Japan, the United States and South Korea. These materials are well-organized in separate warehouses and undergo stringent inspections before being utilized in production. Rolls of non-woven fabric, giant paper pulp, soft elastic bands, packaging materials… are securely wrapped in specialized nylon with detailed information about batch numbers, production dates and manufacturers. They are stored on dedicated shelves, completely separated from the ground.

Modern and stringent quality control

At the Viet Sing factory, in order to produce products that are safe for children to use, it must be ensured that there are no errors in the entire production process.

Each diaper’s quality is precisely monitored through a system of modern machinery that detects errors and separates faulty products along a designated route. Those meeting standards proceed to the automated packaging line, where they are sealed into individual diaper packages and placed into cartons.

Through a rigorous inspection process, workers imprint numbers and production dates on the product packaging. Each diaper pack carries its own unique code, enabling Jo to quickly identify production dates and supervisors if there’s any feedback from customers. This facilitates understanding the cause and implementing appropriate solutions promptly.

GMP WHO-standardized factory creates clean and safe diapers

Right from the stage when the factory was merely sketches on paper, Dr. Nguyen Dang Dung and colleagues aimed to establish a facility meeting the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) WHO standards—a novel concept in the hygiene paper industry at that time. Implementing GMP guidelines during construction and production eliminated dirt and bacteria, preventing cross-contamination and establishing a super-clean environment within the workshop. Raw material and finished goods warehouses are segregated, maintaining stringent control over temperature and humidity. This meticulous process ensures that the diaper products are absolutely sterile and bacteria-free when they reach the hands of consumers.

Research project incorporating Nano silver into diaper products

Working in the medical field and being exposed to global medical advancements, Dr. Nguyen Dang Dungz always harbored the belief of applying the latest technologies to serve life and the community. The research project incorporating Nano silver into diaper products for antibacterial purposes was conducted diligently through collaboration between the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, the Central Drug Testing Institute and specialized hospitals in Obstetrics, Pediatrics and Dermatology. The goal was to create Jo clean diapers with superior antibacterial properties, protecting children from itching, allergies and diaper rash.

As a medical professional turned entrepreneur, Dr. Nguyen Dang Dungz faced numerous challenges on the journey of bringing Jo diapers to mothers across the country. Choosing the path of sustainability, without hasty decisions and prioritizing immediate profits, posed difficulties. However, over time, the outstanding quality of the product and the service-oriented spirit of the leadership, workers and staff gradually won over even the most discerning customers.

Hospitals are the go-to places when illness strikes, but Jo diapers meeting healthcare standards ensure the health and care of children through essential daily-use products.

Enduring partnership of loyal customers

Mr. Nguyen Thai Ngoc, the owner of a loyal customer shop in Me Linh, Vinh Phuc, has been a steadfast companion of Jo diapers and Viet Sing company since the early days. He shared, “It’s not about promotions or support programs. The reason I’ve been alongside Jo diapers for so long is because the product’s quality is genuinely good and safe. Despite being a newcomer in the market, thanks to its good quality and affordable price, the rate of customers returning to use Jo diapers in my store reaches up to 90%”.

Without overly focusing on advertising, Jo Vietnam persistently invests in research and continuous product improvement. This commitment aims to ensure that when Vietnamese mothers use these diapers for their delicate babies’ skin, they experience absolute satisfaction and peace of mind. Though small in size, Jo clean diapers encapsulate intelligence, dedication and love from many individuals striving to bring the best to Vietnam, especially for children—the future generation of the country.

With these gentle Jo diapers, children are nurtured and cared for, providing Vietnamese people with the confidence to use Vietnamese products and take pride in items crafted by the hands and minds of Vietnamese people.

Produced in a GMP WHO-standardized factory and incorporating cutting-edge medical advancements, Jo clean diapers carry the dream of a high-quality Vietnamese product, catering not only to domestic needs but also reaching out to regions and the world.
